Reformation Day

english50This year the celebration for Reformation Day took place throughout ILCO’s communities, where members of our partner churches of the Latin American Council of Churches (CLAI) were invited to a day of celebration and communion to honor the 494 years of Protestant Reformation.

The participants enjoyed an afternoon of activities and church programs with special guests like actor Marco Palma, a youth theatre group from Sarapiqui, Melara Family, and the musical group, Mix of Elements. They also participated in games with Soccer for Life.

Bishop Melvin Jiminez had this to say about the theme of Reformation:

“We give thanks to God for making us part of the community of Lutherans worldwide and that today we gather to follow a guide, a communion in Christ. It is thanks to God that we live and work for a just world, peace, and reconciliation. Reformation Day is a beautiful moment to join the cause of Christian liberty, the cause of the poor. We reaffirm the freedom that allows our church to be symbols and gestures of peace in our country and the world.”

The churches and movements that make up the CLAI recognize Jesus Christ as Father and Savior according to the holy Scriptures. CLAI is used for consulting and coordination and does not have authority over its members to determine matters of doctrine, government, or religious practices, or worship.

The 2011 Reformation Day celebration took place thanks to the coordination of members of CLAI. Those present included people from the Moravian church¸ Faith and Holiness, Episcopal church, ILCO, and the German churche.

The Reverend Roger Cabezas from the Church of Faith and Holiness encourages us to continue working to share confessions and experiences of faith.

“We have great difficulties, the rapid destruction of social services in our country and we cannot be indifferent about these problems. This celebration invites us to make a commitment to the poorest people of our country and we must make this a common cause for all churches. We as churches are a sample of the hope of God.”

I pray that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. John 17:21
